Ikkyu Grading Prep
Ikkyu sits near the door to shodan. Clean ashi-sabaki, honest kiai, and humble reiho matter more than clever waza.
Eligibility & spirit
Confirm federation waiting periods and age rules. Sensei nomination is essential — do not self-register against advice.
Points sensei often mention
Collapsed posture, silent strikes, broken zanshin, and ignoring motodachi safety.
Practice takeaway
After reading, write one question for your sensei and one habit to try at the next keiko. Clarity without practice does not stick.
Hong Kong context
Urban venues, humid summers, and multilingual clubs shape local practice. Ask about schedule and language of instruction when you visit.
