Level 1 — Curious (before joining)

Before a first visit, the concept pages, the FAQ, and the Hong Kong beginner entry are a useful start. Bogu usually comes later, when the sensei suggests it.

  • Concept of kendo
  • FAQ hub
  • HK beginner entry
  • Dojo directory

Level 2 — First month at the dojo

After you join, prioritise etiquette, kihon, footwork, and clothing basics. Watch embedded videos with your sensei’s framing — never replace class with YouTube.

  • HK dojo etiquette
  • Beginner’s guide
  • Kihon
  • Footwork
  • Clothing

Level 3 — Toward shodan

When sensei opens bogu and shinsa talk, study waza pages, kata, grading prep, and ki-ken-tai-ichi. Pair reading with keiko notes.

  • Grading overview
  • Grading prep hub
  • Kata
  • Waza encyclopedia
  • Ki-ken-tai-ichi

Practice takeaway

After reading, write one question for your sensei and one habit to try at the next keiko. Clarity without practice does not stick.
